Teton Valley Amateur Winners

Last weekend The Headwaters Club at Teton Springs held the 2nd Annual Teton Valley Amateur. The weather cooperated and we had a beautiful tournament with some close competition. Congratulations to the winners listed below, and keep us on your calendar for September 2010!

Great weekend with another to come!

Teton Springs and the Headwaters Club had a busy weekend despite the winding down of the summer season. With almost a full house in The Teton Springs Lodge and Spa, the Members Closing Social and multiple golf tournaments, we really had our hands full! Unfortunately I (Casey) was unable to attend these events as I was in California, so I don't have any fun pictures for you all to see!

There will definitely be pictures of this weekend however, as we host the second annual Teton Valley Amateur! The tournament starts tomorrow, September 18th, with a practice round and continues to the tournament rounds on the 19th and 20th. This event brings in amateurs from all over the surrounding areas and is such a great event that we are proud to host every year!

Casting 4 a Cure a Huge Success!

We want to thank all those that attended the Casting 4 a Cure event last Friday! With over 100 people walking through the door, raffle tickets and drinks, we were able to make a significant amount of money for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation! There were great prizes, and the music was amazing! Equal Eyes played all night, and coming just from Boise, hopefully we will see them again soon.

The main event of the weekend, however, wasn't the friday night party, it was the fishing tournament that brought the event to our backyard. WorldCast Anglers was a huge sponsor that brought in all of their guides and all of there boats for this tournament. With 18 teams they caught some amazing fish and had a blast.Check out http://www.flyfishingfrenzy.com/2009/09/04/casting-4-a-cure-2/ for a run down of one team's experience.

A big thank to Bill Farnum and Jim Copeland for putting together this event and all the sponsors that helped make it happen! Every bit counts, and hopefully it will aide in helping the little girls that struggle with Rett Syndrome. Again, to find out more, visit http://www.casting4acure.com.

If you were unable to attend this year, look for Casting 4 a Cure next year right here in Teton Valley and Teton Springs Resort!

Happenings at Teton Springs

Don Watson and Tony Green &
Jeanie Cushman and Jean Crabtree take the Member/Guest

The Member Guest Tournament that began on August 21st with a practice round and cocktail party, ended on Sunday with Don Watson and Tony Green taking home the trophies for the men, and Jeanie Cushman and Jean Crabtree for the women! Everyone left with something however; we had great prizes for both men and women.

What an event we had! We hade 40 players in the tournament this year, and 60 members and guests attended the dinner on Saturday night. Chef Michael Gallivan created a meal to die for with scallops and lobster to start, a delicious salad, surf and turf that included bison and trout, and finishing with a tasting of miniature chocolate desserts.

We want to thank everyone that participated this year, and hope you had a great time!

Teton Springs Resort Invites all Neighbors to the First "Casting 4 a Cure" Benefitting the International Rett Syndrome Foundation

Elizabeth Grace Farnum (Ella) is a 5 year old child whose smile lights up any room. That’s the first thing you notice and then her thick brown curly hair, rosy cheeks and her charming and ever enviable dimples. Ella has Rett Syndrome and the 1st Annual Victor, Idaho “CASTING 4 A CURE” fundraiser is planned for August 28 and 29 at Teton Springs Resort. Ella and her parents, Bill and Beth Farnum, and brother Alex, reside in Portland, Oregon. Bill, an executive with Nike, developed the concept for Casting 4 A Cure and the Teton Springs event is the 3rd such fundraiser to date.

Rett Syndrome is a unique developmental disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls but can be rarely seen in boys and is caused by a mutation of the X chromosome. It strikes all racial and ethnic groups. The girls develop normally until 18-24 months of age and then begin to lose their speech and motor skills. Rett Syndrome causes problems in brain function that are responsible for cognitive, sensory, emotional, motor and autonomic function. These can include learning, speech, sensory sensation, mood, movement, breathing, cardiac function, and even chewing, swallowing and digestion. The International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) is the largest private source of funds for biomedical and clinical research on Rett Syndrome.

A key element of this Rett Syndrome fundraiser is the two-day fly fishing tournament sponsored in part by WorldCast Anglers in Victor, Idaho. Twenty teams will participate in a two day tournament on the South Fork River. This eclectic group of anglers represents some of the most prestigious fly fishing industry leaders, film makers and fishing publication heads. “Beth and I, and our families, are so humbled and grateful for the overwhelming response from the fly-fishing community to help us raise critical research dollars. We’re all looking forward to meeting the people of Teton Valley and share our story; we can only hope that Ella, and all of the “silent angels” afflicted with Rett Syndrome will someday know relief from this heartless disease,” said Bill Farnum.

PUBLIC INVITED! The public is invited and encouraged to attend the 1st Annual Victor Casting 4 A Cure Party at Teton Springs on Friday, August 28th beginning at 6:30 p.m. This outdoor celebration features live music by EQUAL EYES from Boise, ID and California bluegrass legends RICK AND KATHY JAMISON. Other Friday night festivities include a genuine western barbeque, beer garden, casting lessons, lawn games, and raffles with great prizes from Cloudveil, Patagonia, Nike, Stonefly Vineyards, and more. A $20.00 per adult donation for the Rett Foundation will be collected at the door with children 12 and younger admitted FREE.

MAJOR EVENT SPONSORS: Teton Springs Lodge & Spa and Headwaters Club, Cloudveil, Sage, WorldCast Anglers, Grand Teton Brewing Company, Stone Fly Vineyards, and Christensen Studio. Other contributors include: Patagonia, Scott Fly Rods, This is Fly, Fly Fishing Film Tour, Dry Fly Distilling, RIO Products, Sports Authority and Fishpond. For additional information on Casting 4 A Cure and Rett Syndrome visit www. casting4acure.com and www.rettsyndrome.org. Teton Valley Rally for the Cure at Teton Springs

The Headwaters Club at Teton Springs hosted it's third annual Teton Valley Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure Golf Tournament on August 11th, 2009. With times being as they are, there were not quite as many teams as last year, but with about 70 players, almost $12,000 was raised towards the fight against Breast Cancer.

This event, which began as a vision of two women, Julie Whitlock and Nancy Zirkelbach, has become one that golfers look forward to and plan for each year! There are fantastic prizes ranging from hand made quilts, paintings from local artists, beautiful jewelry, rounds of golf, and lodging at Teton Springs Resort, as well as games on the putting green and multiple contests throughout the course. This year, for a $100, one volunteer swam across one of the ponds to give the team a hole in one! It is always fun and a great opportunity to get out and play golf with your friends and do it for a great purpose!

A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers and sponsors for making this event successful and hope to see even more people joining in the cause next year. Mark your calendars for the 2010 Susan G. Komen Rally for the Cure at Teton Springs August 10th!

Happenings at Teton Springs

It has been a while since my last post, but we have not been without action here at Teton Springs. The Golf Course has been hopping, and we have added many new members to our Headwaters Club community.

Our Opening Social was a huge hit at the Christensen Gallery in Victor, ID with elegant hors d' oeuvres prepared by Chef Michael Gallivan, good wine and great company. We have also had a beautiful wedding, (the first of many on our beautiful property) multiple golf tournaments and parties.

We have a whole summer filled with events for members, guests, and locals that cater to any kind of person. Whether you want to golf, fly fish, sight see or even search for wild animals, we have everything right here on "the quite side of the Tetons."

Golf Course Open!

The Headwaters staff is happy to announce that all 18 holes of the main course, along with the Par 3 and driving range will be open, with golf carts available for use, today, April 25. I'm not sure but I think this is 2 months ahead of last year.

The golf shop location has moved into the north side of the cart barn. We think you will like the remodel, we're quite pleased with how it came out and Brian, Steve, Matt and Ray have been busy putting everything together for the weekend.

Because we are still moving into the shop, you may likely get the voice mail for the golf shop when calling. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you leave a message. We will return calls as quickly as possible.

Cart restrictions will be in place and conditions are still pretty rough around the edges as we are just beginning the spring clean-up. Please recognize that the crews will be working hard on the course and may not be paying close attention for golfers.remember to yell "FORE".

Article posted in the Idaho Statesman!

Miss Mary Jane is a VIP for a day — and lovin' every minute of it

Greetings Dear Readers! Miss Mary Jane reporting live from the passenger seat of my friend Gayl’s car. We are returning to Boise after a weekend of VIP treatment at the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa in Victor, Idaho.

Because MMJ is in the event-planning business, we were invited to visit the lodge and tour the facilities as the lodge is trying to encourage travelers from the Boise area to come visit. Well, you certainly didn’t have to ask me twice, because the lodge will also be a great fit as a PNWER post-summit destination for the attendees visiting Boise this summer. (If you want to learn about PNWER, visit http://www.pnwer.org.)

The timing of MMJ’s weekend getaway couldn’t have been more perfect on several levels. Why, the road trip alone would have been enough to recharge my batteries, which had become dangerously close to totally depletion. We got under way with the sun shining, a bag of chips (hey ... it’s a road trip, people) and, unfortunately, enough office work to last a week. MMJ worked the entire way; it was actually wonderful. Gayl and MMJ have traveled together many times to Santa Fe and make good travel partners.

We arrived at the lodge after 5 1/2 hours of driving (the last 15 minutes we were completely lost — what’s up with the lack of signage?), and honey ... all MMJ can say is the VIP red carpet was rolled out for our complimentary trip, and it didn’t get rolled back up until we climbed into the car to return back to Boise. Two words: Thank you.

Did you know that the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is the only hotel in Idaho listed in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World Guidebook (2009)? BTW, Miss Mary Jane brought back the guidebook and fully intends to make it my life mission to visit as many of the hotels in the book as possible. I already checked off one.

Jeff Naylor, general manager, and Dana Sordahl, director of sales, together with their small, but cheerful lodge staff, wined, dined and entertained us in the most wonderful style. From the gift basket and bottle of wine to the fresh flowers thoughtfully displayed on the bedroom table, they pretty much covered all the bases. Three words describe my suite: to die for (Room 301, ask for it).

Even the weather cooperated in the joint effort to make this site visit unforgettable. A big Miss Mary Jane shout out to Brett at the Headwaters Grille – the dining experience was superb. Brett was most attentive to our every need and the venison osso buco was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

The long and short of it is that Miss Mary Jane is considering a return trip in early April to enjoy the remote destination (although take heart major players, there is a landing strip nearby to accommodate your Gulf Streams – and according to my sources, there are plenty who partake of this luxury) and yummy amenities.

Oh, and in closing, MMJ feels compelled to make separate mention of the spa. Having just experienced the Coeur d’Alene Spa and Spa Paradiso at the elegant Davenport Hotel in Spokane, MMJ must admit she didn’t think the lodge was going to even come close. Not only did they come close, they hit the ball out of the park. Miss Mary Jane highly recommends the shea butter body scrub.

Well, TaTa for now. Be sure to sit up straight and mind your manners, for good posture and elegant manners are de rigueur when you're a VIP -- even for a day.

Miss Mary Jane welcomes all your comments and questions you may have. To comment on this or other blogs click here. I shall reply with haste.
